The Importance of Web Design for Non-Profits

Non-Profit Website Design: Getting THE MOST OF A LIMITED BUDGET

Due to the economic hardships of the last few years, Americans have less disposable income than ever. This is a situation that has had an effect on every business, but especially non-profit organizations and charities. In addition to a reduction in per capita expenditures for non-profits, there has been an increase in the number of organizations that are out there competing for the same money, leading to a VERY COMPETITIVE market. Examining this trend, many different organizations are now taking steps to streamline their costs, while still marketing and educating the public about the issues that they are combating.

Non-Profit Website Design: Compelling Change + Convenience = Funding

With non-profit fundraising becoming such a challenge, identifying factors that contribute to success are going to be crucial.  With the array of different charities out there, many of them taking on the same issues, it’s more important than ever to look at a simple formula for success.

In many industries, both public and private, greater success can be achieved with a substantial online presence and robust website. This is where so many charities come up short or even fail. A website is a 24/7 donation collector. People give from all over the world at all hours of the day, which makes it hard to afford the overhead of having someone always available to answer the phone. It's been proven that many people feel most compelled or at ease giving to charities and non-profits in the later hours of the evening. Accessibility to the public is truly the key to competing in the non-profit market, and having effective calls to action and payment portals on your website is fiscally feasible and responsible.

Compelling change IS what charities and non-profit organizations do, so differentiating that mission from others' can be crucial. The consistent and concise management of information is key to this. One of the problems that I often see in organizations is that they have outdated information on their site. Though this is an issue for a number of reasons, the most important one is what it doesn’t do – which is to allow your cause to be stay consistently current, compelling, and concise. Having an easy to administer content management system that a number of staff and volunteers can have access to is really the only solution for small to medium sized organizations, as a full time employee is generally not an option.
