eCommerce Website for All-American Water Ski Company
Radar Skis was founded and is currently run by a team with a deep-running passion for all things water. Offering everything from state-of-the-art boots to family-fun tubes to custom skis for professionals, the Radar Skis product line is continually designed and developed with the end user in mind. Committed to quality and innovation, the Radar team even has their own Radar Lake and Radar Lab that allows them to engineer skis right here in the United States.
When Radar Skis approached our team about designing and developing a new website, they discussed wanting a space to not only showcase their products but also to tell the story of Radar Skis and allow users to explore the brand’s engaging lifestyle elements. It was critical for our designers to create ample room for Radar’s imagery to shine through—after all, their team is not only highly professional and knowledgeable in their craft, they also radiate personality.
In a like manner, they requested a design aesthetic simplified from their previous site—something aesthetically appealing without being either clunky or bogged down with too much awkward white space.
Another critical piece for our team going into this project was to establish an intuitive user flow and organize Radar’s products in a clear, cohesive manner, making it easy for users to find both products of interest and purchase information for traditional consumers and wholesale buyers.
Website Design Inspirations and Outcomes
Radar Skis is a youthful, vibrant company that caters to a wide demographic of prospective buyers. Our website design intersects personality, energy, and professionalism while also offering intuitive navigation, a user-friendly experience, and clear calls to action.
Each of these aspects are punctuated with subtle but “sticky” and eye-grabbing features like sophisticated hover effects, bold fonts, parallax scrolling over large background imagery, and tons of room to let Radar's stunning photography and product shots do the talking. Prudent pops of color across the site—like the bold blue that acts as the primary accent color—and strong lines give the design a modern, edgy feel that well complements the brand.
eCommerce Functionality and Successes
From a functionality standpoint, Radar Skis presented us with a challenge we don’t often encounter—how to sell products direct to consumers without compromising relationships with the retailers that have been purchasing from them wholesale for years. To this end, we built out a robust eCommerce experience that integrates with Quivers—an order fulfillment application allowing Radar to connect retailers with consumer orders as they roll in.
Elsewhere on the eCommerce front, we made it possible for site visitors to toggle through a variety of different filters to achieve a refined custom search set. We also used tabbed sections to host product information; this was a particularly important element considering the wealth of information Radar has to share—from ski specifications to fin settings to notes about the company and more.
On a whole, the new Radar Skis website acts as a vehicle for non-traditional eCommerce marketing and sales that is as full of life and spirit as the Radar team itself.
