Home Builder Social Media: Tips and Strategies for Success

Home Builder Social Media: Tips and Strategies for Success

Here's some surefire social media advice for home builders.

Many home builders blindly jump into social media, Seattle social media servicestreating it the same way that they would any other promotional medium. But unlike traditional marketing channels, social media isn't a monologue - it's a dialogue. You have to engage in conversations with your target audience in order to the put the "social" into social media marketing.

Ultimately, the point of social media is to connect with others. When you promote your home builder website in social media, the idea isn't to blast messages about your homes for sale or wax poetic about how great your company is. You have to offer something of value to social media users, so they tune into what you have to say and spread your content.

Now, that isn't to say you should never talk about your company at all. It's good to incorporate the occasional promotional message into your social media updates, but only when you have something newsworthy to say. For example, if you win an award or sponsor an event, it would be a great time to make an announcement via social media. But don't bombard your social media followers with messages talking about how great your company is - they don't care! They only want to know what's in it for them.

Become a Thought Leader in a Specific Area

As a home builder, the goal of your social media campaign should be to connect with your target audience and establish your company as a thought leader in a specific area. Home building is too broad a topic, so in order to set your company apart, focus on creating content in a specific area related to home building, such as green building, local events, financing or school districts. When people see your company as a go-to resource for a particular topic, you'll get more shares, likes, and follows.

Be Consistent

If you post updates several times a day for three days and then disappear for two weeks, it'll be difficult for you to build an audience. Social media's all about consistency, so make it a habit to post social media updates on a regular basis.

Many home builders are reluctant to dive into social media because they see it as being a huge time suck. And they're right - if you read Tweets, "like" people's posts on Facebook, and comment on blog posts without looking at the clock, hours could pass before you realize that you've gotten zero accomplished. To avoid letting social media destroy your productivity, devote no more than 30 minutes a day to feeding the social media beast. Or better yet, outsource social media to somebody else, so you can focus on running your business.
