Why You Shouldn't Put Off Your Website Redesign

Why You Shouldn’t Put Off Your Website Redesign

Discover why delaying your website redesign could hurt your business.

Redesigning your company’s website is important, but it may get delayed because it’s expensive, time-consuming, complicated, and what not. But putting off your company’s website redesign is a huge mistake because it can hurt your business and your bottom line in many ways. Below are just some reasons why you should promptly redesign your website:

Your website doesn’t display properly. If your current website was designed several years ago, the text and images may not display properly on modern web browsers. This will make it difficult for prospective clients to see your website, and your website will look behind the times.

Your website isn’t visible in major search engines. Many older sites are built in Flash. Search engines can’t crawl Flash files, which means your search engine rankings will suffer.

Your website loads too slowly. Older sites tend to load more slowly than newer sites. Since people decide in a matter of seconds whether they’re going to further explore your website, it’s important to ensure that your website loads quickly for them. If it takes too long to load, they will get frustrated and click away.

Your website hurts your brand image. Most consumers want to do business with brands that are on the cutting edge. If your website looks old-fashioned, people will think your business isn’t “with it” either.

Customers can’t view your website on mobile devices. Tablets and smartphones are everywhere. According to the market research firm IDC, mobile web use will likely surpass desktop Internet access by 2015. If your website was built only with the desktop web in mind, it may not display properly on mobile screens. And if your website has any Flash, keep in mind that Flash files cannot be displayed on the iPad, iPod, or iPhone.

People can’t figure out if you’re still in business. If your website hasn’t been updated since 2008, people may assume that you’ve gone out of business. You need to have a modern-looking website and update it at least once per month to continue to attract new clients online.

You’ve fallen behind the competition. Most of your competitors have likely upgraded their websites by now and added tons of helpful, customer-centric content. If your website looks old school and has a limited amount of content, prospects may decide to go with one of your competitors instead.

Is Your Website Ready for a Makeover?

Take a look at your current website. In terms of graphic appeal, search- and social media-friendliness, ease of navigation, and readability, where does it stand? Is it just as good as or better than what the competition has? If not, consult with a web design firm and ramp up your online presence.
