5 Essentials for a Thriving Business Blog

Put that tired, old blog to rest and create something that people want to read.

Thinking of ways to give your blog’s performance a major boost? Maybe you need ideas on how to increase the popularity and success of your blog but don't know where to begin. If so, here are several tips that will help your suffering blog.

Essentials for an Effective Business Blog:

1. Recognize who your readers are and publish the content they want

It is necessary for you to have a good understanding of who your readers are, their ideas, interests and what types of content they're looking for. Only after you do this can you write posts that will connect with them. A way to do this is to consistently check Google Analytics to see what your highest performing posts are in terms of clicks to the post and time spent reading the post. This can give you an excellent idea of where to focus.

Ask yourself these questions, "What topics do my readers want me to write about, what kind of content do they prefer (conventional blog posts, videos, infographics, etc.), and what is the best method and style for me to use?"

2. Entice your readers to want more

Appeal to your readers with a fascinating headline and an attention-grabbing image. “How to” headlines followed by list posts can be very effective. Headlines that do well contain action verbs, thought-provoking adjectives, incite curiosity, and/ or make a guarantee. Effective images typically help communicate the feeling or emotion of the post or paint a picture similar to what the article is about.

Also remember to use language that seduces your readers into reading the full post. For more information about this, check out this article.

3. Inspire engagement and social sharing

Make it simple for people to leave a comment on your blog posts and to also share the posts on a social media network of their choice. This includes having noticeable social media buttons and an interesting question or comment at the end of the post to initiate discussion.

Make sure to respond to any comments you receive as it's a great way to inspire active conversation around an issue relevant to your business and engage in direct dialogue with potential consumers and customers.

4. Incorporate a call-to-action

At the end of your post, include a sentence urging your readers to take action, such as subscribe to your e-Newsletter, register for a freebie, sign up to get an exclusive, etc. With any luck, your potential customer just read a post they found incredibly helpful and interesting. You have now established trust and credibility with them. What better time to ask them to write a review, download more great information or sign up for a free trial of your businesses products or services.

5. Promote each of your posts

Once your latest blog post is published, don't just let it sit there in the hopes that thousands of people will stumble across it and read it. Promote the post by sending it across your social media network and email it to everyone on your email list. It is also a good idea to have a place on your business’s website to feature your new blog posts and attract attention to a select few. Also, have your staff add a link to the company's latest blog post in their email signature.

Combining all of these key elements to develop your business blog will help ensure that you are maximizing your posts’ performance over time and there is no better time to start than the present.
