Optimize Your eCommerce Site for Better Conversion

With more than half of shoppers admitting to buying products online either weekly or monthly, your eCommerce site should have a huge impact on your bottom line. It’s not enough just to set up shop, however. It’s important to do everything you can to maximize conversions and online sales potential.

A lot goes into building an eCommerce site and getting the most out of it. First and foremost, you’ll need to make sure it’s built on an optimized sales platform with a content management system that makes it easy for you to update and helps your site load quickly - but beyond the technical details, there are many ways you can ensure you’re converting more site visits into sales.

Have a Beautiful, Responsive Design

The design and layout of your site drive the user experience and it’s essentially the first impression your potential customers get of your business. It’s crucial for your site to have a modern design with crisp, high-quality photos to showcase your products in the best way, and incorporate product spotlights and calls to action to increase engagement.

Responsive design is no longer an option. It is an absolute necessity. Your website needs to adapt for browsing on mobile devices, tablets, and desktop computers - providing a seamless, cohesive experience to your visitors at every touchpoint.

Make Products Easy to Find

Whether users come to your shop just to browse or to look for a specific item, don’t frustrate them by making them work for it. Adding a search function will help customers find exactly what they’re looking for quickly, and organizing your products into logical, nested categories will make browsing a breeze.

Take some time to really think about your product categorization and map it out. A single product will sometimes fit into multiple categories, and advanced on-page filters can be added to help your visitors narrow down their search even further.

Put Your Product Detail Pages to Work

Maximize those high-quality, consistently sized product photos by offering zoom functionality to let shoppers explore your products in detail. Add sharing options to encourage visitors to spread the word about your products on social media sites that shoppers love, like Pinterest.

Take time to write good product descriptions. They should be clear and concise. Try incorporating bullet points to highlight key features without being wordy. Product detail pages should also include a call to action, like an “Add to Cart” button that is easy to spot, and a link to your shipping and returns policy.

Optimize Your eCommerce Site for Search Engines

Get your shop ranked on Google by spending some time on your Search Engine Optimization (SEO). For starters, do some keyword research and plan an SEO strategy around those keywords. Create a blog to post useful articles related to your products, and share your posts on social media to drive inbound traffic.
