So, Just How Important is SEO Anyway?

So, Just How Important is SEO Anyway?

Why Incorporating SEO Into Your Business Website Design is a 'Must'

search-engine-optimization.jpgWe've met with a lot of clients whose understanding of search engine optimization is minimal. However, most people do have a general understanding that showing up on the first page of Google search is 'pretty important', but... just how important is it?

A study by Search Engine Journal  reveals that web surfers (your current and potential clients) click on the top (#1) Google result more than 28% of the time. The second and third results get an average CTR OF 15.7% and 11%, respectively. The 15th result, by contrast, gets a click-through-rate of just over 1%. Now, imagine if your lack of organic SEO places you somewhere on the 2nd or 3rd page...

Many potential clients come to us with rankings like these and wonder why their online presence isn't getting them more leads and more business. Here's the truth:

Simply being online isn't the same as being found online. Period.

If your website isn't showing up on the first page of Google search, here's some reasons why you might need a search engine optimized website redesign:

1. Organic SEO Trumps PPC

Many small business owners believe that a poorly-optimized website can be improved through pay-per-click marketing campaigns. The truth is, a PPC campaign only has short terms gains (usually at a high cost) whereas a solid organic SEO strategy can reap continual benefits at no recurring cost to you. (For more details about this, check out our recent blog regarding SEO vs. PPC.

2. SEO must be incorporated into site Design

In order to be effective, SEO must be built into the fabric of your website, not added in later. Adding keywords into text on your site (after it's done being built) can be helpful, but your site must also be properly structured to notify Google of your updates. Most sites aren't built to do this - especially 'budget sites'. (For more details on why a budget website won't do you justice, check out our blog about cheap websites.)

3. SEO is Important for Building Brand Trust

Organic SEO helps companies appear in search results, and therefore companies who sit high on search have a better opportunity to build brand trust with their current and potential customers. Consequently, if your company does not show up for the keyword results in which you'd expect to appear, consumers may question your "industry leader" or "industry expert" title.
