Top 3 Digital Marketing Trends for 2023

Top 3 Digital Marketing Trends for 2023

Wondering what the top 3 digital marketing trends are for 2023? As we get ready to say goodbye to 2022, we checked in with Doug Montgomery, our Digital Strategist, to see what trends are on the horizon for 2023. He looked at what we could learn from the world of PPC, SEO, and digital marketing more generally. Here's what he found.

PPC Trends for 2023

When it comes to PPC or pay-per-click, the landscape for these ads has changed drastically over the last few years. Media costs were up 20% - 40% in 2022, so we've advised our clients to simplify their strategy to focus on just the highest ROAS campaigns. That's partially due to changes that Google and Meta have made to their advertising but also due to the changing landscape of business after the pandemic.

However, if we do run into a recession next year, expect advertisers to pull back budgets. We're already starting to hear that companies are preparing for the worst. Recessions are scary, but they're also a good place for new opportunities. With fewer advertisers putting their budget toward PPC, that means less competition and cheaper inventory for everyone else. Dollar-for-dollar clients should see much better returns than we have in 2022.

SEO Trends for 2023

If you haven't been keeping up with our blog, you might not have seen that Google recently battered us with algorithm updates in Q3 and Q4. Check out what we wrote about the changed focus on "Helpful Content" and "Information Gained Scores." With those two major changes, it's no surprise that, more than ever before, content is king.

Sites with rich, unique, consistent content have been moving up the ranks. That means it's a good time to invest in copywriting for your site, an SEO audit, and blogging.

Digital Marketing Trends for 2023

As algorithms change and budgets tighten, it becomes even more important to move your audience to a place you own. Social media can be a powerful tool, but you're often at the mercy of what the platform decides is the best kind of content they want their audience to see. You don't have a ton of control, even with the best social media strategies.

That's why we recommend making sure you're working to move your social media or website audience to an email list. Getting your email list together and consistently engaging with your audience has a great ROI for 2023.
