He looked at what we could learn from the world of PPC, SEO, and digital marketing more generally. Here's what he found.
PPC Trends for 2023
When it comes to PPC or pay-per-click, the landscape for these ads has changed drastically over the last few years. Media costs were up 20% - 40% in 2022, so we've advised our clients to simplify their strategy to focus on just the highest ROAS campaigns. That's partially due to changes that Google and Meta have made to their advertising but also due to the changing landscape of business after the pandemic.
However, if we do run into a recession next year, expect advertisers to pull back budgets. We're already starting to hear that companies are preparing for the worst. Recessions are scary, but they're also a good place for new opportunities. With fewer advertisers putting their budget toward PPC, that means less competition and cheaper inventory for everyone else. Dollar-for-dollar clients should see much better returns than we have in 2022.
